It is not only common etiquette to send a thank you card, it is just rude not to. Expressing gratitude through a heartfelt note demonstrates your acknowledgment of the effort someone has made on your behalf. If someone takes time to give you a gift, their time, or support, you must show gratitude for their thoughtfulness; this act not only strengthens your relationship but also encourages a culture of appreciation. Whether it is a simple token of thanks or a more elaborate gesture, taking the time to articulate your feelings can leave a lasting impression and foster goodwill in future interactions. Remember, gratitude is not just about the gift itself, but about the intention and care behind it.

When should you send a thank you note
It is proper to send a thank you card not later than 3 months after you receive the gift; however, the sooner, the better, as a prompt response is more meaningful and demonstrates your sincerity. Taking the time to personalize your message can enhance its impact, making the recipient feel valued and appreciated.
- After you receive a gift (weddings, showers, baby gifts, birthday, get well, condolences)
- After a formal dinner party
- A time when a person may give you their time (If someone helped you move, paint your house, or anything time a person took time to assist you,)
- Professional Situations, Job Interviews, Custom appreciation, donor appreciation, etc.
What to include in a thank you card
1.) Start with their name. If you are sending a thank you note after a job interview, use a formal salutation; for example; Dear Mr. Johnson. For more casual situations, their first names are acceptable; Dear Jane,
2.) The first part of your note should be a heartfelt thank you for the gift you were given, using adjectives that go a long way,
- Thank you for the beautiful China Set
- Thank you for taking the time to help me with my painting project
- Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today
- Thank you for all your kind support
- Thank you for being a valued customer
3.)Next add a short sentence or two about how you intend to use the gift, or how the gift or help has made your life better. I can’t wait to use them, or the house looks wonderful now, I really love it
4.) Close your note with a simple phrase or valediction. Whatever your relationship is to the person whom you are writing, you can choose a more formal or casual closing, here are some ideas.
